Attendance Policy for The NYPAA

“Attendance is a prerequisite for success. Opportunity doesn’t make appointments, you have to be there to meet it.”

Attendance Policy for The NYPAA

At The New York Performing Arts Academy (The NYPAA), we understand that attendance is crucial for the comprehensive learning and success of our students. Therefore, we have established the following attendance policy to accommodate our students’ needs while maintaining the integrity and progression of our programs.

For Short-Term Class Students (4, 8, 12 Weeks)
  • Notification of Absence: Students enrolled in short-term classes are required to notify The NYPAA of any absences prior to the class by emailing absence@thenypaa.org. This notification allows us to manage class schedules effectively and ensure that all students receive the full value of their enrollment.
  • Make-Up Classes: Upon proper notification, students will be allowed to make up missed classes. Details regarding make-up class schedules will be communicated directly to the students.
For Full-Year Students
  • Reporting Absences: Full-year students must report their absences through the ASPIRE Student Portal. This ensures a recorded and manageable process for tracking attendance and arranging make-up classes. Should there be any technical issues or difficulties in reporting an absence through the student portal, students must email absence@thenypaa.org immediately to report their absence.
  • Executive Director Approval: Absences not reported through the ASPIRE Student Portal will require approval from the Executive Director for a make-up class to be scheduled. This step is necessary to maintain the fairness and structure of our attendance policy.
  • Make-Up Policy: Students who fail to report their absence as outlined will not be eligible for a make-up class without specific approval. This measure ensures all students are treated equally and maintains the high standards of our programs.
General Guidelines
  • Responsibility: It is the student’s responsibility to stay informed about the attendance policy and to adhere to the procedures for reporting absences.
  • Communication: We encourage open and timely communication regarding absences. Early notification helps us provide better assistance and alternative learning opportunities.
  • Consideration and Exceptions: We understand that exceptional circumstances (e.g., medical emergencies, family matters) may prevent prior notification of an absence. These cases will be handled on an individual basis. Please be aware that the student may be required to provide documentation to support their claim.

By enrolling in classes at The NYPAA, students agree to abide by this attendance policy. Our goal is to foster a supportive, flexible, and rigorous learning environment for all our students. Compliance with this policy ensures that every student can maximize their learning experience and achieve their full potential within our academy.
