Kacey Musgraves is decking the halls with bouts of folly.
The six-time Grammy winner is bringing some holiday spirit to “The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show” on Nov. 29 in Amazon Prime’s first festive foray into the holiday special genre.
In a one-minute video teaser released Monday, kitschy Kacey is seen leaving candy canes backstage for special guests including Camila Cabello, Troye Sivan and Kendall Jenner — and dropping off a lump of coal for “Schitt’s Creek” creator and star Dan Levy, who will narrate the special — as Radio City Music Hall Rockettes flit around her.
In a press release, Amazon said the show would feature a “whimsical set and dazzling wardrobe” that promises to be “equal parts heart-warming and cleverly absurd,” adding that the project would pay tribute to “holiday specials of the past whilst also reinventing just what a Christmas special can be, with a magically modern twist.”
“I can say without a doubt that this project is unlike anything I’ve ever done before,” said Musgraves, who played two sold-out shows at Radio City last month, said. “What started as the small seed of an idea one night over a year ago has turned into something I’m so proud of.”
The variety special will feature old and new holiday tunes by guests including Fred Armisen (performing “Silent Night”), Leon Bridges (“Present Without A Bow”), James Corden (“Let It Snow”), Zooey Deschanel (“Mele Kalikimaka”) and Lana Del Rey (“I’ll Be Home For Christmas”). The show will also have an appearance by Musgraves’ “own Grandma” and kicklines from the Radio City Rockettes. (The show’s music will — synergy alert — be available on Amazon Music on Nov. 29.)
“It’s a nostalgic, Wes Anderson-inspired reimagining of the holidays,” said Musgraves. “It’s heartfelt, funny, and most of all, real.”
