Katy Perry needs ‘therapy’ after ‘Idol’ contestant covers ex John Mayer

“Heartbreak Warfare,” indeed.

Katy Perry had a hilarious reaction to a Top 11 contestant on “American Idol” during a song challenge.

The contestants took part in a “Judges’ Song Contest” where each contestant picked one of three songs to perform without knowing which judge chose the song and had to guess who it was.

Noah Thompson selected to sing John Mayer’s 2009 hit “Heartbreak Warfare.” The contestant, 20, from Kentucky then guessed to host Ryan Seacrest that Perry had chosen the song for him. “I picked Katy,” said Thompson, clearly unaware that Mayer and Perry had dated. “But honestly, I don’t know. I picked Katy. That was my guess.”

Shaking her head in disbelief, Perry responded: “Noah … I feel like maybe you should Wikipedia me,” the “Teenage Dream” singer said awkwardly.

“That’s a big no then?” Thompson joked.

Perry hilariously yelled “I’m triggered!” before sliding out of her chair onto the floor in embarrassment. “It’s a great song, you did great, but I can’t talk anymore,” the singer, 37, laughed.

When it was finally revealed that Luke Bryan chose the song for Thompson, Perry asked, “Who is going to pay for my extra hour of therapy?”

Perry and Mayer dated on and off from 2012 to 2015, and even have a song together titled “Who You Love.” She is now engaged and has daughter Daisy Dove with her longtime partner, Orlando Bloom. The couple welcomed their little girl in August 2020.
