The New York Performing Arts 1-Year Performing Arts Training Program is a 48-week training program of courses and master classes taught by respected working industry professionals.
The program offers dynamic and demanding audition training experience. Working industry professionals provide guidance in exploring the rigors, challenges and many facets of audition technique and teach the skills necessary to be cast professionally.
NYPAA understands that professional relationships are not built overnight. To establish a lifelong career in the arts, artists must forge long-term ties with prominent professionals.
Acting: Build a solid foundation of excellent acting techniques to be a powerful and personal storyteller in various performance genres.
Acting/Scene Study: Focus on text analysis, sensory work, actions and truthful behavior within the scene.
Acting/Improvisation: Develop the actor’s instrument and commitment using specific techniques such as listening, imagination and partnering.
VOICE & MUSIC COURSES
Musical Scene Study: Create seamless storytelling through text, song, action and environment, as well as implement the skills of acting, singing and dance.
Vocal Performance: Develop a process for preparing songs as monologues and apply acting techniques to song.
Audition Technique: Explore type-appropriate material from standards to pop-rock.
Business of The Business: Discover the business of industry in New York City and create a marketing plan for your career.
Voice and Speech: Cultivate a keen awareness of how proper breathing, alignment, resonate and clear articulation can transform an actor into a more expressive and versatile artist.
Vocal Technique: Learn and perform songs that require the essential musical sounds of legit, mix and belt.
Applied Musical Theory: Expand sight reading skills to efficiently learn music.
Courses include Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Latin, Hip-Hop and Yoga.
PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS, VOCAL COACHING, OR MONOLOGUE COACHING
Private lessons support student’s acting and/or vocal skills. This course is optional; additional tuition fees will apply.
